Surgical Consultation
Meeting with a surgeon to discuss a procedure.
Typical visit length: 45–90 minutes
After your visit
What to expect once you leave the office — and what to do to keep things on track.
Consider...
- 1
Deciding on a date
If you’re moving forward, the office will help schedule pre-op testing and the surgery itself.
- 2
Pre-operative testing
Bloodwork, EKG, or imaging may be required within 30 days of surgery.
- 3
Stopping certain medications
Follow the exact list and timing your surgeon provides — write it down before you leave.
- 4
Preparing your home
Set up a recovery space, stock easy meals, and arrange help if needed.
When to call your provider or seek care
- Fever, severe pain, redness, or drainage near the surgical site
- Shortness of breath or chest pain after surgery
- Signs of blood clot: calf pain, swelling, or warmth
- Inability to keep fluids down
In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
